The Massey Ferguson stand was one of the busiest at Agritechnica 2019 with a display that included a futuristic concept tractor as the centrepiece. There were also new tractor models, the Ideal combine plus a variety of implements helping to attract huge interest from potential customers and from dealers.
Massey Ferguson’s NEXT concept tractor revealed the brand’s vision for the future. A distinctive, 4-post cab offers exceptional operator comfort, although the tractor is also designed for full and partially autonomous field and transport operations. Joysticks replace the traditional steering wheel, and soil and crop scanning cameras and sensors provide real-time information for precision farming operations.
Trelleborg’s new CTIS+ wheel and tyre technology featured on the concept tractor allowing on-the-move tyre pressure adjustment to match the conditions, optimising performance and protecting soils. Although the NEXT concept tractor was clearly futuristic, elements of the design including the class-leading cab will feature on production models as early as 2020, starting with the new 7700-series due to be launched next summer.
NEXT special edition
NEXT badges also featured on special-edition MF 5700 S and MF 7700 S models launched at the event. For a limited time, customers ordering new tractors from either series can specify black, or red and black colour schemes at no extra charge over the standard red finish. “NEXT-edition models link the current range to new tractors in both series due to enter production in 2020,” explained Massey Ferguson National Sales Manager for tractors and telehandlers, Joe Ford, at the event.
MF 5700 M-series
Other tractor news included the new MF 5700 M series including 5 models from 95–135hp. These replace current MF 5700 and 6700 models, bringing them all into one series. Transmission choices depend on model and include Dyna-4 16 x 16 powershift and a 12 x 12 mechanical gearbox. Further options include brake to neutral for both transmission types, a Visio cab for loader work, and cab suspension.
A new after-sales service initiative, ‘MF Always Running, Your Courtesy Fleet’ provides added reassurance for Massey Ferguson tractor owners. Promoted heavily at the show and starting in early 2020, the scheme means participating dealers guarantee availability of appropriate replacement tractors from a dedicated fleet when customers’ machines under warranty are in for service or repair. “Most of our dealers already offer replacement tractors for customer use when their own tractors aren’t available,” explained William Judge, Manager, Massey Ferguson National Sales, UK and Ireland, “The Always Running initiative formalises the arrangement and means customers will know there is always a similar tractor, under 12 months old and with a high specification, available.”
Queues for MF IDEAL
The MF IDEAL combine harvester, available to order for the 2020 harvest, proved a crowd puller again at the show. Stairs allowed stand visitors to access the state-of-the-art cab, and for the show’s duration there was a constant queue of people waiting to sit inside.
New grass and forage harvest machinery included front-mounted mowers and tedders. The DM FQ mowers feature a novel ‘pulling’ linkage, TurboLift suspension and roller or tine conditioners.
TD X mounted and trailed tedders were greeted with enthusiasm from potential buyers and Massey Ferguson dealers. These include popular features from Lely Lotus models including the proven hook shaped tine giving unrivalled tedding capacity.
New round balers and baler wrappers were also announced.
Agritechnica Awards for MF
Awards for the brand at the show included Machine of the Year 2020 for the MF 6700 S Stage V, and a Tractor of the Year ‘Best of Specialised’ 2020 Finalist Award for the MF 3709 AL.
