Massey Ferguson keeps driving ahead.
New Dyna-4 transmission and new 125 hp model launched on  best selling MF 5400 Series tractors
.

Anyone who might think that Massey Ferguson is about to pause after completing two exceptional years of new tractor launch activity in every key horsepower sector would be mistaken.  Hot on the heels of its 2005 Agritechnica MF 6400 and MF 8400 announcements, MF is getting off to a fast start at the 2006 Spanish FIMA AGRICOLA Show by revealing a new model and transmission option in its best selling MF 5400 series range.

Massey Ferguson is growing its market share in every region of the world and it is not difficult to see why.  MF has taken a fresh and detailed look at the demands of every farm sector and then its design teams have specifically targeted each sector, carefully refining its machine design developments to match.

Declan Hayden, Vice President Marketing for Massey Ferguson Europe, Africa and Middle East said,

“ There is no doubt that Massey Ferguson’s targeted design strategy is paying dividends to every one of our customers. Not only does Massey Ferguson offer the quietest cab available on the market today, it also has a focused solution for each farm enterprise type and size. Award winning transmission and engine choices, powerful and responsive hydraulics, advanced but simple to operate monitoring and control systems, superb levels of comfort, control and productivity are all part of the new Massey Ferguson experience”.

The latest enhancements to the MF 5400 range include the launch of Massey Ferguson’s new Dyna – 4 transmission, the third in a family of new transmission choices which also includes MF’s acclaimed Dyna-VT (MF 7400 & MF 8400) and Dyna-6 transmissions (MF6400). Quieter cabs, new 40 kph Quadlink suspension options, improved power efficiency, superb power to weight ratios plus the launch of the 125 ISO hp MF 5470 means that the MF 5400 range is a powerful solution right across the 75 -125 hp mixed and livestock sector.

“The large 75 – 125 hp tractor sector is one of the widest in terms of the demands it makes on a tractors capability and performance ”, Declan Hayden said.

“ It contains diverse livestock, mixed and arable enterprises, so on one hand the tractor needs to be an accomplished loader and PTO application machine with responsive power and ease of control. On the other hand it also needs to have the qualities that will make it a strong arable performer in the field and in haulage.  The MF 5400, especially with its new features, is specifically designed to meet these wide demands. There is no compromise with the MF 5400. The operator can specify exactly the tractor to precisely meet his farm enterprise needs.”

New 125 ISO hp MF 5470 flagship joins the MF 5400 fleet

The new 125 ISO hp Massey Ferguson MF 5470 is set to quickly become a firm favourite on all farms. This compact, but powerful four-cylinder flexible workhorse will be an asset on any livestock, mixed and all-arable unit. It is specifically designed to be a powerful performer with front and rear implements and in transport on arable and large mixed farms – and in loader work and heavy PTO applications on livestock farms.

Powered by a four-cylinder 4.4 litre Sisu Diesel the new MF 5470 offers a superb
power-to-weight ratio that, combined with the new Dyna-4 transmission, makes it an outstandingly versatile machine. This manoeuvrable tractor is easy-to-use and spans the technology between the MF 5400 Series and the more sophisticated MF 6400 Series. The MF 5470 features:

· 125hp (ISO) 4.4-litre, four cylinder, Sisu Diesel engine

· The new Dyna-4 transmission which has four powershift ratios in four ranges offering a total of 16F/16R speeds

· Excellent power-to-weight ratio, ideal for fitting front- and rear-mounted combinations

· Optional QuadLink front suspension

“For both mixed farms and livestock users the tractor offers the same flexibility, with plenty of PTO power for working front and rear mowers. With the Dyna-4’s superb shifting and shuttling ability it is also the ideal loader tractor,” explains Campbell Scott, MF Brand Development Manager.

“For professional, large scale farmers the tractor is ideal for a wide range of top-work, powering front and rear combinations as well as being perfect for spraying and spreading,” he adds.

125hp from a compact package

Powered by the latest technology Sisu Diesel engine, the MF 5470 punches well above its weight, while also maintaining tremendous fuel economy. Developing 125hp (ISO) the large 4.4 litre capacity engine has a long, 120mm stroke and a 108mm diameter bore. Turbocharged and intercooled, it meets all the latest emissions standards and provides excellent power and economy.

Dyna-4 for ultimate flexibility

After starting the tractor there is no further need to use the clutch to change speed or direction with the Dyna-4 transmission. Four speeds in each range can be shifted, under load, with a simple flick of a lever. The four ranges can also be selected, without using the clutch, by simply pressing a button on the console-mounted lever.

MF’s unique Power Control lever, mounted on the left-hand side of the dash, is perfect for shuttling backwards and forwards, leaving the right hand free to control equipment. ‘Pulsing’ the lever shifts through each of the Dyna-4 steps individually, or holding it fully forward or back will change through the steps in sequence.

Operators are even able to set the shuttle sensitivity. A small rotary dial, on the right hand console, is used to set the ‘aggression’ of the change. This could be set to harsh and fast for work such as loading muck or grain where quick cycle times are required, or for smoother and slower changes when, for example, stacking pallets

A new transmission control lever, mounted on the right-hand side console provides full control, changing both ranges and Dyna-4 ratios. Push this small ‘T’-shaped lever forwards or back to select the four Dyna-4 steps either individually with a ‘pulse’ or up or down in sequence by holding it in the forward or back position. Change through the gears with the same lever by simply holding in a button on the side and moving it back or forwards. Speedmatching automatically selects the correct Dyna-4 speed to match the forward speed when changing ranges.

Extra comfort and traction from QuadLink front suspension

As well as providing a big improvement in operator comfort, performance and safety, optional QuadLink suspension also increases traction by up to 20%. The simple, compact system has a high pivot and free axle oscillation, which helps maintain stability and safe operation. This arrangement also offers a large amount of travel – 45mm up and down – to maximise operator comfort and increase traction over varying terrain. With a true 40km/hr top speed, the MF 5470 is also a strong haulage performer.

A single hydraulic ram, accumulators and electronic control maintain constant suspension height regardless of axle load, oscillation or turning angle. Operators can also deactivate the system at the touch of a button, particularly useful for operations such as using a loader to stack pallets, where maximum precision and control is required.

Sensitive and powerful hydraulics – optional 100 l/min combined flow.
5000 Kg. standard or option of 6000 Kg. lift capacity.

The standard two-pump hydraulic system provides 58 litres/min for operation of the
linkage and spool valves, while a 42 litres/min pump provides the power for all the internal services. Available as an option, 100 l/min oil flow can be achieved by combining the flow of two hydraulic pumps via a switch on the right hand console. The linkage is “locked out” and 100 l/min is supplied to the spool valves to give extra speed and power for loader operations.

· Perfect for loader work - MF 5400 Visio roof, high visibility bonnet and 100 l/min combined flow hydraulic option combine with Dyna-4 to create the ideal handling tractor
· Low cab noise  - 75dB(A)

Dyna-4 uses proven Dynashift technology combined with the simplicity and ease-of-use of the Dyna-6 transmission. An option on all the MF 5400 Series, it is likely to appeal particularly to livestock and mixed farm users.

Laurent Pernin, Massey Ferguson’s General Marketing Manager explains:

“It is the ideal transmission for extending the tractor’s versatility. Not only does it simplify loader work, the added flexibility of the clutchless operation is also perfect for fieldwork as well as transport.”

“Clutchless operation using the Power Control lever for shuttling and changing Dynashift ratios makes Dyna-4 ideal for loader work. The T-shaped transmission control lever allows clutchless range changes as well as the shifting of the Dynashift ratios in field and transport work. The transmission provides exceptional flexibility of operation whatever the job,” he adds.

Simple, proven and reliable

After starting the tractor with the Dyna-4 transmission there is no further need to use the clutch to change any speeds or direction. Four speeds in each range can be changed, under load, simply with the flick of a lever. The four ranges can also be selected, without using the clutch, by simply pressing a button on the console-mounted lever.

Easy to use and flexible controls

Massey Ferguson’s unique Power Control lever is perfect for using the benefits of Dyna-4. Mounted on the left-hand side of the dash, the lever is perfect for shuttling backwards and forwards, leaving the right hand free to control equipment.
Its functions don’t stop there. Firstly it is used for pulling away. All the operator needs to do is push the lever forwards or back and the tractor moves off, and there’s no need to use the clutch again. ‘Pulsing’ the lever shifts through each of the Dyna-4 steps individually, or holding it forward or in the back position will change through the steps in sequence. Moreover, lifting the lever disengages the clutch.

Operators are even able to set the shuttle sensitivity. A small rotary dial on the right hand console is used to set the ‘aggression’ of the change. This could be set to harsh and fast for work such as loading muck or grain where quick cycle times are required, or slowly and smooth when, for example, stacking pallets

Console-mounted T-lever control

A new transmission control lever, mounted on the right-hand side console provides full control, changing gears and Dyna-4 speeds. Push this small ‘T’-shaped lever forwards or back to select the four Dyna-4 steps either individually with a ‘pulse’ or up or down in sequence by holding it forward or in the back position. Change through the gears with the same lever by simply holding in a button on the side and moving it back or forwards. Speedmatching automatically selects the correct Dyna-4 speed to match the forward speed when changing gears.

Dyna-4 makes the MF 5400 range the perfect loader tractors

Standard MF 5400s are already superb loader hosts offering unrivalled levels of visibility, comfort and speed of operation. Now with the additional benefits of the Dyna-4 transmission, the tractors are perfect for handling work.

Shuttling is now simplicity itself using the left-hand Power Control lever, plus operators can set the sensitivity of the direction change to suit the task. With four powershift Dyna-4 steps in each gear, it’s always possible to find the right speed – both forwards and back. Shifting speed is simply a case of flicking a lever.

Other MF 5400 Series’ features and options, such as Visio Roof and steep nosed bonnets (up to MF 5455), plus the unique 100 litres/min combined flow hydraulics which are selected with a flick of a switch and joystick control all combine to make the MF 5400 range the perfect loader tractors.

Significant reduction in cab noise

In-cab noise levels have been reduced (75 dB(A)), further increasing operator comfort. Massey Ferguson’s operator experience right across its tractor ranges now offers exceptional levels of quietness, comfort and ease of control.
